simchat torah

yesterday was simchat torah, the Jewish holiday where we rejoice and dance with the torah as we complete the "book" and reroll it to teh beginning and begin again with breishit. it is a great holiday with so much happiness (simchah) and dancing and singing! there were hours and hours of dancing and kissing teh torah scroll and fun festive meals.
simchat torah is also a holidya that simulates a wedding and not just the dancing at a wedding it is a wedding between God and the Jewish people, where we commit ourselves to eachother and rejoice in this holy communion! God is the bride and we are the groom, this is such an interesting custom and i am not exactly sure why we are the groom and God is the bride,, maybe it is because the bride usually knows and choises the groom, but he is the one that accepts teh committment by proposing and comittimg himself to hos wife during the wedding. God has already chosen us but we need to be the ones to make the outward committment!
L'simcha!
